As interior design continues to evolve with shifting trends and innovative styles and materials, finding sources of inspiration remains a critical component of curating a refined interior space.
Beginning a project with a piece of inspiration allows you to build a personalized sanctuary centered around your aesthetic preferences.
Upon reflecting on the key sources of creativity, simplicity, Pinterest, and nature are the essential guiding forces behind my creative process, sparking the vision and execution of serene and sophisticated spaces.
Inspiration can often be rooted in small moments as we draw on the simple influences of everyday life and travel. Finding the art in simplicity and reflecting on natural textures, color palettes, and clean lines can inspire a serene and harmonious interior design. Likewise, a cherished piece from a client’s collection, including heirlooms, art, and textiles, can influence surrounding design elements, informing colors, shapes, and textures.
When we pause to find inspiration in the natural world, we can push the boundaries of interior design, curating a fresh perspective from unique and often overlooked elements, like the colors of rustling leaves or the lines from the pavement. Recently, I found myself drawn to the natural beauty of the birds in my backyard as I watched the crow family, goldfinches, and hummingbirds. These moments of beauty inspire the design of serene interior spaces rooted in simplicity.
Pinterest, an image-sharing social media platform, is a visual database for all forms of artistic expression and an essential tool for interior design inspiration. Based on user activity, including saves, pins, and follows, the application curates a feed that aligns with your specific design preferences and aesthetic vision. By scrolling through the feed, you can find contemporary ideas and trends representing your evolving tastes while expanding your creative vision.
Additional features allow you to search specific terms and trends and create boards to save and categorize design ideas for future projects. Utilizing these features, I can bring initial inspiration to life, compiling inspirational photos to build a vision tailored to the needs and design style of the specific client and space.
A timeless and tranquil source of inspiration, our natural surroundings play an integral role in curating serene and sophisticated interior spaces. Utilizing nature as a guiding force, we can implement natural elements like trees and shrubs, natural light, wood, and other organic materials into our interiors to create a calming retreat.
By embracing biophilic design, we not only seamlessly connect the indoors to the natural world, but we also introduce psychological and aesthetic benefits. Aside from adding texture, depth, and light to your space, sunlight, greenery, and other natural design elements have been proven to reduce stress and increase overall well-being, fostering a sense of tranquility and a calm ambiance.
With interior design, inspiration lies in the world around us. Creative forces surround us, whether it be a family heirloom, an element of nature, or a piece of art. A few critical sources of interior design inspiration driving creative processes and creating beautifully curated oases are simplicity, Pinterest, and nature. Their influence extends beyond aesthetics, creating reflections of the self and personal experiences within our homes.
When embarking on a new project or adapting your current space to evolving preferences and lifestyle needs, seek inspiration from these three major influences to guide your creative process.
