Our client wanted to transform her narrow, outdated bathroom into a space that felt fresh, modern, and aligned with the character of her 1928 Spanish-style bungalow. The goal was to blend 1920s charm with the tranquility of a contemporary spa. Through thoughtful material choices and design details, we created a space that honors the home’s history while introducing updated comfort and functionality.
Highlights
Key features included maximizing natural light through rain glass windows and a new skylight, along with the thoughtful integration of non-institutional grab bars, adding safety without compromising on style. The design centered around Stars and Cross accent tiles and a low-curb shower finished in soft blue-green, bringing texture, geometry, and tranquility to the space. Durable yet luxurious materials like white porcelain and polished nickel further contributed to the bathroom’s timeless feel.
To maximize function, we designed a custom rift-cut oak vanity with a high storage tower, built-in hamper, and seven drawers, including a clever under-sink compartment for tucked-away storage. A decorative display niche was added to showcase the client’s glass collection, adding a personal, collected feel. A teak shower stool helped utilize every square inch of the narrow layout. Despite the quirks of the older home, the finished space feels open and spacious—an elegant retreat that balances form, function, and enduring beauty.
