The client reached out to rework the awkward entryway and cramped kitchen in their family home. The original layout lacked flow, with four doors converging in a small, uninviting space. The kitchen offered little room for gathering or movement, there was no place for the kids to sit, snack, or do homework while meals were being made. The vision was to create a lighter, more welcoming kitchen with better storage, improved function, and a small island for casual seating.
Highlights
To improve both flow and functionality, we reimagined the kitchen and entry without expanding the footprint. A full-height, shallow-depth cabinet was designed and painted to match the new island, providing much-needed storage while preserving openness around the seating area.
We also closed off the original front door and created a new opening from the living room, removing a built-in bookcase in the process. This change created a cleaner, more spacious entry experience with open sightlines, one view into the living room, the other toward the dining area. A previously awkward angled wall and cabinetry were removed, allowing for a straight corridor lined with 24″ deep full-height cabinets, bringing clarity and rhythm to the space.

A warm, layered composition of crisp white, walls, honeyed wood floor, robin egg and white painted cabinets, and softened grey geometric backsplash, bringing calm, color, and quiet structure to a compact family kitchen.
