Set high on a ridge beneath the Getty with sweeping views to the Pacific, this early modernist home was originally built by the client’s parents and thoughtfully reimagined for a new chapter by their daughter and her partner who also grew up in the neigborhood. The renovation honored the home’s architectural roots while introducing warmth, flow, and coastal clarity. It became a space of beauty, partnership, and full of meaning. It’s memory endures in the careful choices and quiet joy it once held.
The client came to us after inheriting the home wanting to renovate to create a new home in her old neighborhood. While the home had strong architectural roots, it had undergone a series of renovations that strayed from its original design intent. Much of what remained was outdated and or in disrepair. The goal was to restore the home’s modernist spirit while bringing it into alignment with contemporary standards and the clients vision for comfort, function, and beauty.
Highlights
All areas of the home were reimagined, including the addition of a compact dance and workout studio. Salvageable original elements, such as the bedroom millwork were repainted and preserved, with hardware carefully removed and replated to retain authenticity.
A new kitchen was configured to frame the view and offer better flow for everyday cooking and entertaining. A custom entry was designed to ground the home’s approach and arrival. New finishes were layered throughout, including windows, doors, paint, HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing, and custom millwork; restoring clarity, purpose, and grace to a remarkable site.

A modernist balance of warm white, soft tan, walnut brown, cool grey, and charcoal, the natural tones of earth, stone, and shadow. This palette grounds the home in its hillside setting while reflecting the clarity and restraint of its early modernist soul.
