Urban Suburban

A Sustainable Refresh in Burbank

Originally built in 1939, this compact home in Burbank was ready for transformation. Outdated systems, an original floor heater, no central air, and aging electrical, made everyday living inefficient and uncomfortable. The redesign focused on creating a healthier, more functional environment using sustainable practices inspired by LEED guidelines.

A modern rear addition and remodeled garage allowed the home to grow in meaningful ways, while its character and history were respectfully preserved. Throughout the design, there’s a quiet interplay between past and present—a yin-yang rhythm expressed in the materials, layout, and flow of the home itself.

Highlights

The renovation included a full kitchen redesign, an upstairs addition with a new primary bedroom and ensuite bathroom, and a sitting room at the back of the home that opens to the pool through expansive custom Fleetwood sliding doors. Fleetwood windows were also used throughout the addition to echo its modern aesthetic, while Marvin windows preserved the traditional feel of the original home.

Custom cabinetry, new oak flooring, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, and upgraded lighting were installed throughout. The garage was remodeled into a dual-purpose creative studio, serving as both an office and a fully equipped compositon studio.

Reclaimed teak siding flows from interior to exterior, adding warmth and continuity, while vintage, antique, and sustainable furnishings were layered with existing pieces to create a home that feels deeply personal, intentionally modern, and rooted in both past and future.

Main Color Palette

A study in balance: creamy white, warm taupe, breath-of-sky blue, softened teak, and charcoal black.

Together, they echo the home’s yin-yang spirit; where vintage warmth meets modern calm.
